WHAT IS ASTHMA

      Asthma is a disease of lungs. It may be termed as chronic respiratory disease. In case of asthma airway become narrow due to inflammation and breathing in difficulty occurs. Coughing,wheezing,shortness of breath and chest tightness are main asthma symptoms. It is also referred as bronchial asthma. With proper care and treatment asthmatic patient can live well.

CLASSIFICATION OF ASTHMA

      Asthma is classified in to followings according to the severity --
  1. Mild intermittent asthma
  2. Mild persistent asthma
  3. moderate persistent asthma
  4. Severe persistent asthma

SYMPTOMS OF ASTHMA

   There are three main symptoms of asthma  --

AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION --

     The airway is surrounded by band of muscles which are relaxed in normal condition and allow the air to pass through. In case of asthma band of muscles becomes tighten and air cannot move freely. Adequate amount of air cannot reach to the lungs and asthmatic patient has short of breath he behaves like air hunger. The air moving out through tightened airway causes wheezing.

INFLAMMATION OF BRONCHIAL TUBE --

  In case of asthma bronchial tubes becomes red and swollen. Inflammation of bronchial tubes can damage the lungs. Treating this inflammation is key to managing asthma in long run.

AIRWAY IRRITABILITY

 In case of asthma airway becomes sensitive and tends to overreacts when slight difference in the climatic condition.

ASTHMA CAUSES AND TRIGGERS

   In case of asthma airway react to different things in the environment called asthma triggers. Some common asthma triggers are as follows -
  • Infections such as sinusitis,colds and flu.
  • Irritants such as strong odour from perfumes or cleaning solutions.
  • Tobacco smoke
  • Air pollution
  • Sudden change in temperature and humid.

TREATMENT OF ASTHMA

     Asthma is treated with different methods and according to the severity of the case.
Treatment should be taken under the supervision of qualified doctors.
