WHAT IS BMI
BMI is the Body Mass Index.It is the calculation of measurement whether individual is properly nourished or malnourished.
CALCULATION OF BMI
BMI is calculated as per following formula.
BMI = Weight of individual in (kg)
_______________________________
Height of individual in square meter
This can be understood with the help of following example---
Suppose the weight of a person is 70 kg and his height is 150 cm then how the BMI is to be calculated.
BMI = 70/ 1.5x1.5
= 70/2.25
= 33.33
EFFECT OF BMI
Overweight is a BMI of 27.3 or more for women and 27.8 or more for men.Obesity is a BMI of 30 or more for either sex
The normal BMI is between 18.5 and 25.
DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH BMI
If BMI is higher the risk of developing a range of condition linked with excess weight ,including-
1. Diabetes
2. Arthritis
3. Liver Disease
4. High Blood Pressure
5. High Cholesterol
6. Sleep Apnea
So BMI is a measuring tool of the condition of the body and it helps to keep fit.
