When two or more substances are are mixed together they form a mixture. Components of mixture should be separated to remove non useful components coma to remove impurities are harmful components.

 Examples - 1 - to separate stones from rice.
                      2- churning milk to obtain butter.

Winnowing is a method of separating of components of a mixture. Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air.

Sand and water separated by the process of sedimentation. In this method mixture of sand and water is allowed to stand for some time. The sand is settled down in the bottom. Water is poured slowly into another container.  Hence water and sand is separated.

Yes it is possible to separate sugar mixed with wheat flour by the following method.

 1 - mixing of sugar and wheat flour in water.
2 - solution should be stir to allow sugar to dissolve.
3 - now solution is filtered.
4 - does sugar solution will be separated and residue will be wheat flour.

Following steps should be taken to obtain clear water from muddy water.

 (1) Leave the muddy water for a certain period of time.
(2) Muds get settle down in bottom and a layer of clean water is form between clear water and settled mud.
(3) slowly pour clear water to another container.
