FULL FORM OF DM
DM stand for District Magistrate. DM is the head of the district. He is responsible for the law and order of his district in fact he is overall responsible for his district. DM collect the revenue for the government so he is called district collector also. DM office is situated in district headquarter.
Every district of India has a District Magistrate to look after overall administration of the district. They belongs to Indian Administrative Services. They are selected by examination conducted by UPSC. Directly they could not become DM,but after gaining certain experience they can become District Magistrate.
MAIN WORK OF DM
1. DM is maintain law and order in his district.2. He inspect all the jails of his district and look after the facility available in it.
3. He assessed the work of subordinates.
4. He is responsible to collect the land revenue and deposit to government treasury.
5. He submit the crime report every year to government and takes necessary step to prevent and reduce the crime in his district.
6. He is responsible for maintain good health and hygiene of his state.
So DM is the overall responsible for his district.
