WHAT IS NRI
NRI stand for Non Resident Indian. A Non resident Indian is a person who is Indian citizen(born in India) but has migrated to another country. He may be migrated for any reason like for education,work,residence or any other purpose. According to the definition "a person who stays away from the country for more than 182 days in a calendar year is termed as Non -Resident Indian". A NRI will hold the passport of India and posses the citizenship of India.There are three main categories of NRI which are as follows -
1. Indian Citizens who stay abroad for education,employment,to carry a business or for vacation.
2. Indian citizens who work abroad in foreign government agencies like IMF,UNO,World bank etc.
3. Official of Central or State government and public sector undertaking working abroad.
According to the ministry of overseas Indian Affairs,India has the second largest NRI in all over the world after China.
