WHAT IS RBC
The RBC stand for Red Blood Corpuscles.Generally it is called Red Blood Cells. It is also called erythrocytes, haematids or erythroid cells. The function of RBC is to deliver oxygen to the body tissue via blood flow through the circulatory system.Haemoglobin is an iron containing biomolecule that can bind oxygen and responsible for the red colour of the cells and the blood.RBCs are continously generated in the bone marrow as they last for 120 days in blood stream before being by the spleen or liver. The bone marrow produce enough RBCs to replace the removed senescent (old) RBCs.
The structure of mature human RBCs is small, round, disc shaped cell and it does not contain a nucleus.RBCs have a flexible membrane that facilitates them to change their shape in order to pass through smallest blood vessels. In an adult human the count of RBCs are 4.5 to 6.0 million red blood cells per cubic milimeter of the blood volume.
