Yeast is an egg - shaped single cell fungus which is visible with a microscope. It needs food,warmth and moisture to thrive. it changes its food sugar and starch through fermentation,into carbon dioxide and alcohol.USES OF YEAST
It is used in baking bread.When baking yeast leavened bread, the yeast ferments the sugar in the flour and release carbon dioxide .Due to elasticity of and stretchable property of dough carbon dioxide cannot escape. The expanding gas causes the dough to inflate to rise.
Yeast is also an important ingredient in brewing beer. The yeast eats the sugar in beer and produce carbon dioxide and alcohol.
