FULL FORM OF CBDT
CBDT stand for Central Board of Direct Taxes. It is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act,1963. It functions as a division of the ministry of finance under the department of revenue.
COMPOSITION OF CBDT
The Central Board of Direct Taxes consist of the chairman and following six members ---

4. Member ( Personal & Vigilance )
5. Member (Investigation)
6. Member (Revenue)
7. Member ( Audit and Judicial )

FUNCTION OF CBDT
Its function include formulation of policies,dealing with matters related to levy and collection of direct taxes, and monitoring of the functioning of the entire income tax department. CBDT also proposes legislative changes in direct tax enactments and changes in rates and structure of taxation with consultation with the ministry of finance and according policy of the governments. The board consist of Chairman and six members. The Chairman is the co- ordinating head of the all the members. All the members are assigned a specialized function. They are assisted by Joint Secretaries,Directors,Deputy Secretaries, Under Secretaries and ministerial staff for carrying out their routine functions. The Chairman and others members have been assigned territorial zones for the purpose of supervising and monitoring the work of fields for which they assigned.
For the effective discharge of function of CBDT ,it is assisted by a number of attached offices known as Directorates. These directorates have been assigned a particular function such as inspection,vigilance,maintenance of statistics,recovery,judicial,training to its officials,conducting of deoartmental examination etc.
