NSDL stand for National Securities Depository Limited. It is the securities depository in India that holds the securities of investors such as bond,debentures,securities,shares in electronic format. NSDL is the first and largest central securities depository in India. The aim of establish of NSDL was to sort out the issues such as bad delivery and delayed transfer of securities ,problems to get duplicate when original was lost as paper base settlement of the securities.
NSDL was established in 1996 after the enactment of Depository act, 1996,to facilitate trading and settlement of securities in electronic format to get rid off problems facing by the paper based settlement. Its headquarter is in Mumbai,India.
