FULL FORM OF SEBI
The full form of SEBI is Securities and Exchange Board of India.It was established on 12 April 1988. It has got the statuary powers in 1992 with SEBI act passed by the Indian government. Its headquarter is in Mumbai. SEBI has four regional offices New Delhi, Chennai,kolkata,and Ahmahabad.STRUCTURE OF THE SEBI
SEBI is managed by chairman and its member. Chairman is nominated by Union Government of India. There are eight members who who works with the chairman. Out of eight two members are the officers from the Union finance Ministry,one member from the Reserve Bank of India and rest five members are nominated by Union Government of India.
FUNCTION OF SEBI
SEBI is entrusted with some important responsibilities which are as follows --
- To check the books of accounts of financial intermediaries.
- Its protect the interest of the investor in securities.
- Its promote the development and regulate the securities market.
- Regulating the business in stock exchanges.
- Registering and regulating the function of stock brokers,sub-brokers,share transfer agent etc.
- Prohibiting fraudulent and unfair trade practices.
- It conduct the awareness programme to enhance the knowledge of investors
- Imposing fee structure and other charges on the intermediaries.
- It ensure certain companies to list their share in one or more stock exchanges.
