ISIN stands for International Securities Identification Number. It is an essential system implemented to recognize specific securities issue. 

ISIN code is a unique code which is used to identify securities. The National Number Agency is responsible for allocating ISIN for all the securities issued in the country.

MAIN FEATURES OF THE ISIN

ISIN is the important in trading securities internationally and have to use this number scheme. The main features of this system are as follows

1 - An ISIN is a 12 digit alphanumeric number. This alphanumeric code is broken down as follows -

(a) First two letters of the ISIN code refers to the country indicates in which the  company exists.

(b) The next nine digit identify specific and act as a unique identifier.

(c) The last character referred to as the ' check digit ' 

For instance -      

Put together, an Indian ISIN looks like INE123A01010. Reading it left to right: IN is the country code, the next nine characters (E123A0101) identify the issuer and the security, and the final character (0) is the check digit.
