WHAT IS SARS
SARS stand for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) causes SARS. A coronavirus is a common form of virus that causes upper respiratory tract illness. It first appeared in China in Nov 2002 and was identified in Feb 2003.
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF SARS
The main mode of transmission is coughing,sneezing and due to close human contact of the infected person. The respiratory droplets are absorbed into the body through the mucus membrane of the mouth,nose and eyes. It may spread through
1. Hugging and Kissing
2. Sharing utensils for eating and drinking
3.Speaking to someone within a distance of 2-3 feet.
4.Touching to someone directly.
An infected person can spread the disease by leaving respiratory droplet on objects such as on utensils,doors handles,telephones,doorbells,if it is picked by healthy person.
SYMPTOMS OF SARS
In most cases of SARS it begin with high fever and other symptoms are dry cough,shortness of breath,chills,diarrhoea etc. These symptoms will appear over the course of a week.
PREVENTION OF SARS
Some simple steps can be taken to prevent the SARS virus from spreading some are as follows
1. Frequently hand should be washed.
2. Avoiding touching the eye,mouth or nose with dirty hand.
3.Coverning the mouth while coughing or sneezing.
4. Keeping distance with infected person.
