WHAT IS BMR

    BMR stand for Basal Metabolic Rate. It is the amount of energy required by the body to maintain life or vital functions in the resting position at a comfortable temperature without eating or digesting any food.

CALCULATION OF BMR IN HUMANS

   The following formula is used to calculate the BMR-

P= (10.0 x m/1kg)+ (6.25 X h/1cm)-(5.00 x a/1 year) + s

In the above formula-

P=  Total heat production while at rest
m= Weight of a person in kilograms
h=  Height of a person in centimeter
a=  Age of a person in year
s=  Constant (+5 for males and -161 for females)
