FULL FORM OF SGPT

WHAT IS SGPT

      The full form of SGPT is Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase. It is enzyme and produced by the liver.It is found in high concentration in liver cells,moderate concentration in kidney cells and in low concentration in heart,pancreas,spleen,red blood cells and skeletal muscles.

     The increase level of SGPT indicate that there is a problem in liver and other concern organ. SGPT test is carried out to evaluate the liver function.It is also done to check medical treatment that may affect the liver. This test is done if patient has symptoms like Jaundice,Dark urine,Frequent Nausea and vomiting.

NORMAL VALUE OF SGPT

   The normal range is about 7 to 56 unit per litre of blood serum.Very high level of SGPT in the blood can be indication of damage or problems related to liver.In a certain disease like cirrhosis and hepatitis raise the blood serum level.
