WHAT IS ECG

         ECG stand for Electrocardiogram. It is a test to check the electrical activity of the heart. It record the electrical impulses when the heart is beating. The electrical impulses are recorded on a moving strip paper or on screen. A normal ECG line tracing consists of wave which are P wave,QRS complex,ST segment and T wave.

WHY AN ECG TEST IS REQUIRED

       ECG test is required to detect the various heart related problems which are as follows

1. In case of abnormal heart rhythms
2. Cause of unexplained chest pain
3. Thickness of the walls of the heart chambers
4. Restricted blood supply to heart due to cholesterol deposits
5. To check the performance of implants like pacemaker
6. To detect the myocardial  infarction
7. To check the heart's health if a person is suffering from high cholesterol,diabetes,high blood pressure etc

TYPES OF ECG TEST


   There are three main types of ECG test which are as

1. Resting ECG:  This test is carried out when the patient is lying in a comfortable position.

2. Exercise ECG;  It is carried out when the patient is using a treadmill.

3. Ambulatory ECG; In this test patient is wear a small machine at his/her waist and does the normal routine work. It helps to monitor the heart for one or more days.
