WHAT IS MTP


      MTP stand for Medical Termination of Pregnancy. It is the induced termination of pregnancy by a medical professional. MTP is legally allowed only in the following cases------

(a) If mother is a rape survivor.
(b) If there is a danger to mother due to complication of pregnancy.
(c) If there is a possible danger to the fetus.

WHO CAN PERFORM MTP


  MTP is performed by a qualified gynaecologist at a government approved medical facility or  MBBS doctor with appropriate training in MTP is also be allowed to perform the procedure.

      MTP is done when mother is willing to get ride of fetus. In India,pregnancy of only up to 20 weeks can be legally allowed termination. If the age of fetus has more than 20 weeks,the mother will have to present her case in the court of law and she has to take special permission for MTP. MTP is not allowed if the sex of fetus has already been determined.
